Swearing In

Keith Ellison will be sworn in as a congressman from Minnesota, and he wants to do it using a copy of the Quran instead of the Bible. It makes sense to me, considering the fact that he’s Muslim. Surely he respects the Quran more than the Bible, so if he’s going to swear by anything, it might as well be what he believes in. Further, how can the United States speak with any authority to the world on the importance of religious liberty and freedom of conscience if people here are forced to make pledges based on artifacts of a religion they don’t embrace?
